Apocalyptica – Live in Stadthalle Chemnitz [21.2.2017 ]

Anniversary tour

Apocalyptica were recently on an anniversary tour and that, definitely made me go there. I have a long-time fascination for the band due to their cellos and to their kind Finnish nature. Besides that, I’m even allowed to make pictures… Let’s go to Chemnitz.

The first part of the concert was minimalist. All four elements were sitting on the side, with a simplistic backdrop. However, the songs that were played have their own greatness and many tears were visible in the faces of the crowd. Besides, the humour of the Finnish in dealing with a not so full venue was also a surprising factor. The most left element of Apocalyptica had also surprised since it was the first time I saw him…But Antero Manninen dominates his instrument as if he was always there.

Then, it was time for a short break during which a stage reconstruction took place. After this renovation, the posture of the band was much rock-oriented and the big drums made Mikko one of the main actors of this part of the concert. The crowd also stood up and cheered the band that appreciated this support. Perttu plays with the backside of his cello, while Antero smoke and burns his cello…Where do you have your camera when you need it?

Time flies and the end of the concert approaches. We have the impression that such a concert is always too short. Certainly, it isn’t my last Apocalyptica concert as they impressed me tremendously. Perttu even said in the end of the concert that, in the next maybe, maybe Apocalyptica would play Scorpions with three bagpipes…That would be exciting…
